

Distinguished Senator Dr. Osita Ngwu, Representing Enugu West Senatorial District joined the people of Obeagu on Sunday, August 30th 2026 to celebrate their 2026 Annual New Yam Festival at Igwebuike Primary School Field, Obeagu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. In his welcome address, the President General of Obeagu Town Union, Chief D.C.P. Orji (Rtd.), thanked God and warmly welcomed Senator Ngwu and his entourage, alongside Obeagu sons and daughters, special guests, friends and well wishers. He urged the people at home and in the diaspora to preserve and promote the community’s traditional customs, cultural heritage and identity while transmitting these values to younger generations to sustain unity, morality, dignity, communal responsibility and mutual respect. He also emphasized the importance of love and unity, stressing that the roots and origins of the community’s cultural heritage must never be forgotten.

Speaking at the celebration, The Enugu West Senator who also serve as the senate committee chairman on Air Force expressed delight at joining Obeagu in the cultural festival and commended the community for preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage and values. He appreciated the people for their support and highlighted developmental projects and interventions he had attracted and established in the community, assuring them of more dividends of democracy. The Senator further urged the people to continue supporting good governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for greater development across the communities. Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu was ably represented by Prince Emeka Joe Udeh, SPA on Constituency Matters, Awgu LGA; accompanied by Hon. Jonas Nwude and Hon. Donatus Onyedikachukwu.


In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Ogbuefi Engr. Ani Chinedu Titus appreciated the massive turnout and the presence of dignitaries, particularly Senator Ngwu for his love and commitment to communities across Enugu West, especially Obeagu. He prayed for journey mercies for all guests and expressed optimism that the next edition would be even greater. The festival attracted political, religious and community leaders, traditional rulers, cultural dance groups and colourful masquerade displays, creating a vibrant celebration of Obeagu’s heritage and communal unity.
