ENUGU WEST ACADEMY EXPANDS OPPORTUNITIES: GOV. MBAH, SENATE PRESIDENT AKPABIO APPLAUD SENATOR NGWU OVER ₦250M BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS.

Governor Peter Mbah and the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, have commended the senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, for disbursing ₦250 million in bursaries and scholarships to students at a ceremony held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu. The scholarship and bursary scheme, now in its second year, is part of Ngwu’s Enugu West Academy initiative aimed at supporting students academically and financially, with beneficiaries including UTME candidates and postgraduate students. Akpabio, who also announced a ₦100 million donation to the academy, described Ngwu’s effort as an uncommon commitment to education and youth empowerment, noting that education remains the most powerful tool for shaping the future.

Governor Mbah, represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, said the programme complements the state government’s ongoing reforms in the education sector, including the establishment of smart schools across the state. Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, represented by Surveyor Ugo Chime, described the initiative as a genuine effort to give back to society and urged other well meaning individuals to invest in education and community development. In a keynote address titled “Leaving No One Behind: The Role of Scholarships in Closing the Gap,” the Registrar of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, C. N. Nnebedum, also commended Ngwu, stressing that scholarships remain vital tools for ensuring equity and enabling talented students to achieve their full potential.‎In his address, Senator Ngwu said the academy was established after discovering that many brilliant students were unable to pursue their academic dreams due to lack of opportunities and mentorship. He emphasized that the initiative is driven by a vision to ensure that the future of Enugu West is defined by knowledge, opportunity and deliberate investment in young people

Ngwu revealed that in 2025 alone, over 2,600 students benefited from UTME preparation classes and registration support across the five local government areas of the district, while the academy currently has more than 4,000 students enrolled across 19 physical learning centres and online platforms. Other speakers, including the Director of Strategy at Enugu West Academy, Kanayochukwu Ani and traditional ruler HRH Ken Ezike, described the programme as a platform of hope and an investment in the future, urging beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies and strive for excellence.
